The Lord of the Rings Trilogy is the literary masterpiece that brought us the fantasy genre.
Set in Middle-earth- a mythological world created by J.R.R. Tolkien and full of elaborately detailed places and people that have captivated readers for years.
To this day, there isn't a work of published fiction that can stand toe to toe with this series. The Lord of the Rings is for fantasy what Star Wars is for science fiction. It's epic.
The story follows a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins and his companions from the Shire- Sam, Merry and Pippin.
When Frodo is given the task of traveling to the Cracks of Doom to destroy the One Ring, the four of them set out on the journey of a lifetime, unsure of what waits for them in the outside world.
Every single day... every step of the way is a fight against the growing forces of the Dark Lord Sauron, who wants to use the power of the ring to rule over Middle-Earth, but Frodo and his smaller than average friends prove that even the littlest of men can be heros.
This is an incredible story that every fantasy reader should own. Since its publication, the Lord of the Rings has been dubbed one of the greatest works of imaginative fiction. It's unlike anything else you will ever experience.
In the ancient lands of Middle-earth, a place of elves and dwarves, Orcs and wizards, the darkest evil and the brightest good, a hobbit named Frodo Baggins embarks on a perilous quest: to carry the One Ring, ruler of all the Rings of Power, into the shadowy land of Mordor and destroy it in the fires where it was forged.
In ancient times the Rings of Power were crafted by the Elven-smiths, and Sauron, the Dark Lord, forged the One Ring, filling it with his own power so that he could rule all others.
But the One Ring was taken from him, and though he sought it throughout Middle-earth, it remained lost to him. After many ages it fell into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, as told in The Hobbit.
In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. He must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.
The Fellowship is broken; the quest to destroy the it seems already shrouded in disaster.
But as the evil lord Sauron readies his armies for war, Frodo and Sam continue their lonely journey toward Mordor, guided only by Gollum, a deceitful and tortured creature, helplessly in thrall to the Ring's dark power.
Frodo and his Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom.
They lost the wizard Gandalf in a battle in the Mines of Moria, and Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force.
While Frodo and Sam made their escape, the rest of the company was attacked by Orcs.
Now they continue the journey alone down the great River Anduin -alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.
War rages in the west, a titanic battle of will and strategy between the great wizard Gandalf and Sauron, the dark lord.
Meanwhile, eastward in Mordor, Frodo and Sam approach the end of their improbable quest, bearing the One Ring ever closer to the Cracks of Doom, and to a final confrontation with the very essence of evil. As the Shadow of Mordor grows across the land, the Companions of the Ring have become involved in seperate adventures.
Aragon, revealed as the hidden heir of the ancient Kings of the West, has joined with the Riders of Rohan against the forces of Isengard, and takes part in the desperate victory of the Jornburg.
Merry and Pippin, captured by Orcs, escape into Fangorn Forest and there encounter the Ents. Gandalf has miraculously returned and defeated the evil wizard, Saruman.
Sam has left his master for dead after a battle with the giant spider, shelob-but Frodo is still alive, now in the foul hands of the Orcs. And all the while, the armies of the Dark Lord are massing as the One Ring draws ever nearer to the Cracks of Doom.
