City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

City of Lost Souls is the fifth book in the Mortal instruments series by Cassandra Clare.

Jace and Sebastian are missing and Clary decides to take matters into her own hands when she can't get any help from the Clave.

She and the gang set out on a mission, only to find a Jace that has totally changed in the time that he's been missing.

They discover, of course, that his weird shift in personality has everything to do with being bound to the nasty Sebastian.

Unfortunately this also means that there is another complication in their newly progressed situation: if Sebastian dies... so does Jace, and vice versa.

One more little tidbit to add to that rock and a hard place- the Clave is INTENT on destroying Sebastian. So now it falls on Clary and the gang to find a way to save Jace before the Clave can take out Sebastian.
