The Twilight Saga: Twilight

Best Young Adult Vampire Romance Books

the twilight saga

The Twilight book is the first volume in The Twilight Saga, a young adult fantasy series by Stephenie Meyer.

I absolutely fell in love with the story behind the Twilight series when I picked up this book. It's my favorite Twilight book to date, even after reading them all more than once!

Twilight Book Summary and Review

About three things I was absolutely positive.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him-and I didn't know how dominant that part might be-that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Seventeen year old Bella Swan leaves behind her beloved Phoenix to move in with her father in Forks, Washington. A small, dreary town where nothing exciting ever happens.

But after her first day of school, and a less than savory first encounter with mysterious, gorgeous, Edward Cullen, Bella's interest is more than a little piqued.

And it doesn't take long before confusion, irritation, and curiosity have Bella's sights focused solely on Edward.

It's all the little things that make Twilight so special. The intensity of the connection between Edward and Bella, for one, is almost a tangible thing.

Edward has a powerful effect on Bella... just being near him often makes her incoherent. There's an electric chemistry between them that some books just lack.

For lovers for the movie- those who haven't read the books- I would recommend reading the books. There are quite a few small but significant points that make the book so special, however, many of them were left out of the movie- or portrayed differently.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie too, but in the book you get all the details and sweet little moments between them that they didn't have time to include in the movie.

Like when Bella gets sick in Biology class on the day they're doing blood types... this was left out completely, but the significance to me is huge.

This is the first time that Edward truly touches Bella (he carries her to the nurses office).

I love the way that, while Edward can't seem to help himself when it comes to being near Bella, he is constantly trying to warn her away.

And the meadow scene... much more detailed, and so much more special than it was portrayed in the movie. It held more significance in the book because this is where Edward and Bella share their first kiss... not in her bedroom while she's half naked. Anyway... just read the book- if you haven't- before I give it all away and ruin it!

Favorite Quotes from Twilight

Edward hesitated to test himself, to see if this was safe, to make sure he was still in control of his need. And then his cold, marble lips pressed very softly to mine.

What neither of us was prepared for was my response. Blood boiled under my skin, burned in my lips. My breath came in a wild gasp. My fingers knotted in his hair, clutching him to me. My lips parted as I breathed in his heady scent...

... "Oops," I breathed. That's an understatement. - Edward and Bella, The Twilight Saga, Twilight

Suddenly the sidewalk disappeared from beneath me. My eyes flew open in shock. Edward had scooped me up in his arms, as easily as if I weighed ten pounds instead of a hundred and ten. - Bella Swan, The Twilight Saga, Twilight

In his rearview mirror, Edward’s eyes were on me. He was unquestionably shaking with laughter, as if he’d heard every word Tyler had said. My foot itched toward the gas pedal… one little bump wouldn’t hurt any of them, just that glossy silver paint job. I revved the engine. - Bella Swan, The Twilight Saga, Twilight

You and Cullen, huh? I don't like it. He looks at you like... like you're something to eat. - Mike Newton, The Twilight Saga, Twilight
